Chapter 4: The Siren’s Fall
The heavy metal of the pistol slipped from Victoria’s trembling fingers, hitting the oak floor with a dull, heavy thud that seemed to echo the final collapse of her entire fabricated life.
She stared down at the weapon, her knees buckling beneath her. She sank slowly to the floor, her expensive wedding gown pooling around her like a shroud of white silk. The fight had completely drained out of her, leaving behind only the cold, bitter reality of total defeat.
Heavy footsteps filled the hallway outside the dressing room. Vance and two federal agents in tactical gear marched into the room, their expressions stone-cold and mechanical. Without a word, they hoisted Victoria to her feet, the sharp, metallic snap of steel handcuffs echoing loudly as they locked around her wrists.
"Victoria Miller—you are under arrest for grand larceny, wire fraud, conspiracy, and extortion," the lead federal agent stated flatly, reading her rights as they dragged her past Christian.
Victoria didn't look back. Her hair fell across her face, hiding her features as she was escorted out of the mansion, disappearing into the rainy night and the flashing emergency lights of the police fleet.
Christian stood motionless in the center of the devastated dressing room. He let out a long, shuddering breath, feeling the crushing weight of the past two years finally lift from his shoulders. He turned and walked back into the master bathroom, where little Chloe was still sitting near the vanity.
Kneeling down once more, Christian gently opened his arms.
Chloe looked up, her tear-filled eyes wide with uncertainty. Without a second thought, she threw herself into her father’s arms, burying her face in his shoulder and crying tears of pure relief.
