Chapter 17 - THE MONEY THAT WAS NEVER MISSINGInvestigators expected $140 million theft.

Numbers looked enormous.

Then forensic accounting produced twist.

Only $31.4 million actually drawn through Vesper.

Of that:

$18 million still in recoverable properties/accounts.

$8.7 million frozen offshore.

$4.7 million spent/lost.

Loss serious.

Not $140 million.

The $140 million represented future plan.

Media exaggerated.

Richard corrected publicly.

Why?

Because precision mattered even when smaller number reduced drama.

Then accountant Noelle found something stranger.

Whitmore Family Office reserve fund showed $9 million “missing.”

Adrian appeared to steal.

But bank reconciliation found money sitting in a restricted escrow account Eleanor had created eleven years earlier.

Why?

Eleanor secretly moved reserve funds out of Victor Saye’s reach during investigation.

Adrian knew.

He had preserved.

After Eleanor died, account forgotten.

The supposed missing $9 million was not theft.

It was Eleanor’s protection.

This changed Adrian’s total culpability somewhat.

He had stolen later.

But not everything blamed.

Richard insisted reports corrected.

Adrian’s lawyer noticed.

It helped cooperation.

That led Adrian to reveal final hidden asset.

Victor Saye had created a “mirror trust” years ago funded by illicit fees.

After Victor died, Adrian took control.

Value now:

$23 million.

Adrian could have kept.

Instead he had been using portions to pay off Crest and cover schemes.

Still illegal.

But remaining $11 million could be recovered.

Why reveal?

“Because I’m done.”

Adrian sounded tired.

Richard believed.

Not forgave.

Then Adrian said something that unsettled everyone.

“Crest has one more file.”

“What?”

“Richard’s will.”

Richard frowned.

“My will is with Miriam.”

“Real one.”

“Crest has fake.”

Purpose?

If Richard died unexpectedly during scheme, fake will would designate family office as executor and Sophia/Ethan as primary controllers.

Forged signatures prepared.

Never used.

Authorities found it.

Chilling.

Did they plan Richard’s death?

No evidence.

Adrian denied.

Crest denied.

Document was contingency fraud, not murder plan.

Miriam emphasized.

Still disturbing.

Sophia saw fake will and realized how disposable she was.

It granted her temporarily.

Then clauses allowed removal for marital instability.

Everything was trap.

She began cooperating without bargaining as aggressively.

Maybe conscience.

May you like

Maybe fear.

Maybe both.
