Chapter 29 - The Final Audit of Blood

The boardroom erupted into chaos. Several board members shouted in outrage, others reached for their phones, while Julian backed slowly toward the panoramic window, his hands trembling violently.

"This is an outrage!" Julian screamed, his voice cracking into a high-pitched whine. "My father controls the debt facilities! You have no evidence of anything!"

I walked over to the central conference terminal, pulled a thumb drive from my pocket, and shoved it into the presentation interface.

The seventy-five-inch digital display mounted on the wall flickered to life.

Instantly, the audio from Arthur Vance’s encrypted radio echoed through the high-end speakers—crisp, horrifying, and undeniable.

*"Cut that primary fiber-optic trigger, Daniel, and the remote RF transmitter fires a dead-man pulse to the shaped thermite charge strapped to the gas main under your baby’s crib..."*

The board members gasped. Evelyn slumped forward onto the table, burying her face in her arms, dry-heaving in sheer, nauseating shame. She had been greedy, she had been arrogant, but she had never known her uncle and cousin were willing to murder children for concrete.

The screen shifted, displaying high-resolution drone surveillance footage captured thirty minutes before dawn. It showed the federal raid on Arthur Vance’s coastal estate, revealing subterranean storage lockers filled with stolen military ordnance, offshore banking ledgers under Julian’s personal signature, and the master digital key that proved Julian had authorized the sabotaged concrete batch that started this entire nightmare.

Two federal agents moved in, grabbing Julian’s wrists and forcing them behind his back. The sharp, mechanical *click* of the steel handcuffs echoed across the silent room.

"You're done, Julian," I said, looking him dead in his terrified eyes. "You tried to bury my work under broken concrete. But you forgot the most basic rule of engineering: the foundation always outlasts the facade."

Richard stepped up to his trembling daughter.

Evelyn looked up at him, tears streaming down her makeup-smeared face. "Dad... Dad, please... I didn't know... I swear to God I didn't know Arthur was going to do that! I just wanted the money... I just wanted to win..."

Richard looked down at the daughter he had spoiled, the daughter whose lies he had believed when he cast me into the cold. There was no rage in his eyes anymore. Only a profound, sorrowful emptiness.

"You took my grandson's dinner and smashed it on the floor, Evelyn," Richard whispered, every word landing like a hammer blow. "You laughed when my boy was driven into the rain. And in your greed, you opened the door to monsters who tried to slaughter your own nephews."

"Dad, please—"

"You are no longer my daughter," Richard said quietly. "The trust is dissolved. The family home is being deeded to Daniel and his boys. You will take your son, you will leave this city, and if you ever show your face near Daniel's porch again, I will personally hand the state prosecutor the check fraud evidence I kept locked in my safe for five years."

He turned his back on her.

Evelyn collapsed into her chair, sobbing hysterically as the federal agents escorted Julian out of the room in chains.
