Chapter 14 - THE SONG THAT BROUGHT OUR FAMILY HOMESix months later, my youngest daughter stood on a wooden stage in a small elementary school auditorium.

She wore a yellow dress.

White shoes.

And a silver butterfly necklace.

Her curls bounced as she looked toward the audience.

Then she found me.

“Daddy!”

Half the auditorium turned.

I smiled.

“Hi, sunshine.”

Beside me, Isabelle laughed.

Nora waved both hands.

Then her teacher gently guided her back into position.

The children began singing.

And for the first time in my life, I listened without wondering whether someone was watching me.

Without checking the exits.

Without expecting a threat.

I simply listened.

My daughters were alive.

My wife was alive.

And the world had changed.

Not all at once.

Not easily.

But it had changed.

The months following the marina rescue had been difficult.

Anthony Bellucci had been charged in connection with the kidnapping, unlawful confinement, financial crimes, and the conspiracy surrounding Isabelle's disappearance.

Mrs. Donnelly faced charges related to the kidnapping, the attack on our home, and her involvement in my father's murder.

Carlo Vescari and several others had been arrested.

Investigators recovered the original ledger beneath the chapel altar.

The three butterfly pendants had contained separate pieces of the evidence.

Olivia's held the financial records.

Sophie's contained names and communications documenting the kidnappings.

Nora's held a video Isabelle had recorded shortly before she disappeared.

Together, they provided investigators with a detailed account of the criminal operation Anthony had spent decades hiding.

The records also helped authorities identify people who had been held in other facilities.

Some were rescued.

Others were still being sought.

The investigation was ongoing.

I had given the authorities everything Isabelle asked me to provide.

Including records of my own organization.

That decision had consequences.
